HARARE – Premier Service Medical Investments (Pvt) Ltd (PSMI) is celebrating World Kidney Day at Harare Hospital today.
This year’s theme is Kidney Disease and Children: Act Early to prevent it.
The subsidiary of PSMI, is conducting free screening to the relatives of its patients.
Executive director healthcare services, Dr Tafadzwa Gutu, said: “PSMI joins the rest of the world to celebrate World Kidney Day and there is a special package for our patients who have been supporting us. Kidney disease can be hereditary so we are trying to identify the disease in its early stages in order to nip it in the bud.
“This year’s theme is for children, so we encourage our patients to bring their families especially children to be screened of any kidney disease. Patients will also get renal diet education by a dietician.”
The company will not only cater for its patients but have also partnered with Harare Hospital to celebrate this day.
Director hospitals division Dr Margaret Maulana said: “In support of the government’s push towards public-private partnerships, PSMI Renal Unit has partnered Harare Hospital to commemorate the World Kidney Day at the public institution.
“The group is very proud to partner a public hospital in such a worthy cause. It is crucial for us to join forces with Harare Hospital as we together encourage and facilitate education, early detection and healthy lifestyle in children, thereby building future generations.”
The group has two renal units in Harare at Parkview and West End Hospitals which are manned by highly professional staff.
The PSMI Parkview Haemodialysis Centre offers diagnostic and therapeutic services; for patients with progressive renal failure. These include detection of any incipient renal disease in diabetic patients, for patients with difficulties controlling hypertension that is associated with renal insufficiency and for patients with renal and stone disease.
PSMI said patients can visit their centres for screening of any kidney ailment.
